Plan vs Goals

I just read a blog of a young lady that has a weight loss goal, but no expressed plan to get there.

Goals are great things. Everybody should have a few. But a workable plan is more important. Without a plan, the goal is just words. It is through a plan that the goal is reached.

The first goal should be to record the food (food journal) we are eating each meal, do a calorie count, carbage count, protein check, and the like.  This is to find where we are at, as a starting point. The second goal should be to select a food plan and stick to it for a bit. Watch where the problems lie, study and address each problem as they become evident.

My first step was to give up sugar. Caffeine and artificial sweeteners followed.
Then wheat, followed by other cereals. Cheese is in the give up/take back stage now. Butter has been gone a few weeks. I was eating butter for a while but now seem to be gaining weight again.

At each give up stage, I overeat green vegetables and meat a bit. It seems to help the cravings, but I do not crave greens and fresh meat, other than roast beef. But then I am not going to do a roast for the two of us.

  1. The food journal is a great idea. I definitely need to do that. You're right about the plan helping to reach your goals. In the past, I think that's why I've never been able to stick with a regime. I didn't have a regime to stick to. I just did some exercise here or there. Nothing. Nice post.   2. not gonna do a roast for the two of you??? don't deny yourselves. :-) for the two of us, a small roast makes for a wonderful meal and some darned good leftovers -- i like to make a paleo stroganoff with mine! (salivating just to think of it....)

    the other part is that I am a compulsive overeater. To help control this issue, there is no hand to mouth food in the house, else I just eat it.
