Causal chain

http://www.weightymatters.ca/2014/06/is-it-really-scientifically-impossible.html

We are obese because we overeat, so why do we overeat?

We overeat because we chose to satisfy hunger... and our hunger signal is set to high. To down regulate the hunger signal, we need to expose the receptor to leptin, and the receptors that see leptin are blocked by insulin. So we can either learn to live hungry or get our insulin level down, way down. To do that, LCHF is the way. Learn about the food we eat, and what the body needs. We need the food and physiological knowledge to adjust our diet to something that will work amid all the lies, deceit, miss-information and ignorance of what is true and right. Go back to the old ways, before the obesity problem was bad. If this is enough, good, you are a "normal eater", if not you have more issues.

So now that hunger is not the problem, we overeat because of a hoist of other reasons.

First, lets consider food addiction. Sugar, grains, wheat, O6 oils, endorphins, endocannopioids, hormones, alcohol, drugs, chemicals, caffeine, chocolate, stimulus, adrenalin, etc. are all addicting to some. So are you addicted? The first step in recover is to remove for all time, the foods that you shown addiction behavior toward: aka craving, no ability to stop consuming despite adverse reaction, etc.

Addiction may include hyper-palatable foods that are super good tasting, and you like and are unwilling to give up. Addict in denial. It is your choice.

So then there is eating over emotions, a habit residing in the subconscious, that we learned in early life. Learn the skills necessary to deal with the emotions, feelings, insane world situations. Deal with not suppress, because suppression leads to becoming a psychopath / sociopath. There are enough of these wandering around now. I ended up reading and studying much and now consider myself a practicing Stoic. You have the same right to learn or be ignorant, to be right or wrong, it is your life, I am not going to tell anyone how to live.

Life often gives us stuff that is difficult, and there are many methods of cooping, eating is one of those. If eating becomes maladaptive, now you have a eating disorder; if you are older it may be PTSD of a form. Learning to live in an insane, hostile world requires advanced defensive, social and emotional skills, all of which can be learned, give the right coach or mentor.

But what do I know.

  2. Yes, yes, and yes. We don't have satiety signals anymore, we just eat until we feel full (super full) or even sick. And we totally eat our emotions. That is something we need to unlearn, otherwise the best efforts are bound for failure. Great post.

  4. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.

I do not think it was a mater of unlearning for me, I think it is more learning new skills, which went over my heads as a child and as a adults. I was almost retired before I started to learn how to quickly dissipate the feeling that arise.
